New dates Naples meeting May 31 – June 3, 2022

With utmost regret we have to inform you that we again need to postpone our Naples meeting, to May 31 – June 3, 2022. The local organizing team and the members of the executive committee are closely observing the dynamically changing Covid-19 situation, including a rise of infections with variants of concern in several countries, and governments that will try to decrease infections with additional travel restrictions, quarantine regulations and border closures.

One of the reasons to postpone the meeting is that, most likely, not all of you interested in joining the meeting will have full vaccination cover with vaccines approved in Europe, especially not at the time of conference registration for the previously planned October date. Others may not be allowed to enter their country of residency when travelling back from the meeting without a period of quarantine, or risk that restrictions tighten during their stay in Naples.

Even though we would very much have liked to meet you all in Naples in October this year in person, we feel that it is unfair to those with heavy travel restrictions to adhere to our schedule. We have to accept that the vaccination campaigns haven’t delivered us the stability we need for the meeting just yet. Moreover, as the pandemic situation is very dynamic, unforeseen travel restrictions in the fall are quite likely. For now, we are optimistic that the vaccination campaigns remain successful to allow safe traveling for most of you again in May 2022.

Except for the date, not much has changed since the first announcement: the meeting will be held at the historic cruise ship terminal, the Stazione Marittima in the wonderful city of Naples, Italy. We already would like to thank the local organizing team whose members are incredibly agile and most likely cover a much higher workload and pressure than anticipated. We also want to thank all speakers and participants in our webinars for their engagement in our Society.

With all best wishes,

Annette Becker, on behalf of the executive committee of the European Society for Evolutionary Developmental Biology
